This website sets no cookies. Here is how it is built

Static pages, self-hosted fonts, search in the browser: how this website gets by without cookies and without third-party services – and what that costs.

Anyone who opens this page sees no cookie banner. The reason is simple: the site sets no cookies, uses no analytics services and loads nothing from third-party servers.

What is missing – on purpose

No analytics scripts, no advertising networks, no embedded videos from video platforms, no fonts from third-party servers. There is no contact form either: anyone who wants to write to me clicks an email link. As a result, the website itself ends up with no form data.

What runs instead

The website consists of ready-made HTML files. They are built once and then simply delivered; there is no database. It is built with Astro, a tool for static websites. The fonts are stored on the site's own server.

Search is handled by Pagefind. The search index is created when the site is built and is searched in the browser. There is no search server that queries are sent to.

There is one thing the browser does remember: if you switch on the dark colour scheme, your choice is stored locally on your device. The privacy policy says the same.

How the site came about

The code was written by an AI agent – following a plan that I had worked out beforehand with an AI assistant: page structure, rules, texts, design.

At the end there was a check. A script opens every page in a browser and counts two things: cookies and requests to third-party servers. Both numbers must be zero. Otherwise the work does not count as finished.

What it costs

No visitor statistics run on the website. That is why I can only see very roughly how often an article is read and where its readers come from. For a start, that is a fair price. If I measure later, it will be without cookies – and with a section of its own in the privacy policy.
