Gusia is a painter from Odesa who lives and works in Israel and paints in oil on canvas. I built her website, gusiart.com (External link): a gallery of her paintings, a section with clothing and items carrying her prints, an archive of earlier works and a page about her. There is no checkout on the site; people get in touch directly via WhatsApp, email or Instagram.

The idea and the content came together with the artist. The design and the technical side are mine.

Paintings in a hall

On the home page the paintings are not laid out in a grid; they hang on the wall of an exhibition hall. The hall changes with the colour theme: by day a bright room with tall windows, by night warm lamplight and the city outside. There are three themes, and visitors choose for themselves.

Three languages, one of them right to left

The site runs in Hebrew, English and Russian. Hebrew reads right to left, so the whole page layout is mirrored for it, not just the text. Each language has its own addresses, and search engines see all three versions.

The artist updates it herself

Gusia adds new paintings and items through a simple admin panel, without a developer. The clothing section shows her prints on T-shirts.

How it is built

  • Static pages built with Astro: fast to load, with very little on the server that can break.
  • No cookies, no analytics, no third-party scripts.
  • The phone number and email address are hidden from scraping bots.
  • Search markup (paintings, artist, sections) and a sitemap; the main pages are already in Google's index.
